South Georgia is an island in the South Atlantic Ocean, althoug hnot strictly in Antarctica it is part of the British Overseas Territory of South Georgia and the South Sandwich Islands. It lies around 1,400 kilometres east of the Falkland Islands. Home to many interesting sites (including the grave of explorer Ernest Shackleton), South Georgia has several former whaling stations and boasts plenty of wildlife including a huge colony of king penguin. South Georgia is also home to over half of the world's enormous southern elephant seals, the largest of all seals.
